A piece of history of Shire Cricket
The Sutherland Shire was incorporated in 1906, one hundred years ago. For half of that time the Junior Cricket Association has been in existence providing a nationally embraced sport for kids to play in organized competition. It has developed many a young person into a responsible healthy adult and taught the values of fair play sportsmanship and similar characteristics that have made many an Australian a household name.
This history is part of the Shire heritage be it though a small part. It has produced great sportsmen; not only in cricket, but in cricket alone it can proudly stand by its claim that it nurtured the beginnings of Australian Test Cricketers such as Hilditch, Dyson, Clark and Gillespie.
In these archives, you will discover a piece of history in the shire. But the picture is not complete, if you have yearbooks, photos, newspaper articles or other pieces of cricket history from the Shire, please contact history@ssjca.com.au. We would love to receive any resources from you, and will return them to you after we have converted them into a digital format.
