Engadine Dragons
In 1958 Barry McManus, Alan Hemmett and Reg Lingard coached two teams of youngsters in the local Aussie Rules Competition. The following winter season the boys decided that they wanted to play rugby league, which led to the birth of the Engadine Dragons Rugby League Club. Barry formed the cricket club in the summer of 1959/60 to keep the boys together, and entered three teams U/10, U12 and U/14 into the newly formed Sutherland Shire Boys Cricket Association. From humble beginnings 50 years ago Engadine Dragons has proved itself to be a worthy member of the Association having won the "Club Championship" on no less than 11 occasions.
Thanks to the dedication of our experienced coaching staff Engadine Dragons are able to provide the opportunity for all their players from U/8 to seniors, to fulfil their cricketing potential. With strong financial backing from our local community we have been fortunate to be able to offer excellent training facilities including our newly upgraded practice nets at Anzac Oval as well as our indoor training facility and club room.
Engadine Dragons are a progressive club and are not inclined to rest on their laurels. In this our 50th Anniversary season the Club will be launching its pre-season EDCC Junior Academy aimed at helping younger players make the transition to traditional cricket and to aspire to representative cricket. Based on its success this will be the first of many programs that the club will be aspiring to conduct over the coming seasons.
Although success isn't always measured by the size of the trophy cabinet it is a reflection of work and effort that is put in by all within a club. Since 2000, Engadine Dragons Cricket Club has won 10 senior premierships including back to back A1 titles. We have won 29 junior premierships including the 10A's four times, the 12A's three times, the 14A's five times and the 16A five times. During this time, we have won 4 SSJCA Club Championships and have had 5 SSJCA Cricketers of the Year. We have contended 8 of the last 9 16A Finals, the pinnacle of junior cricket. Over the past 10 seasons we have supplied over 20% of the Shire's Representative players. We are a proud club with a proud history for developing juniors.
