Clubs of the SSJCA
St. John Bosco
Bosco Cricket Club, last season, consisted of 10 junior teams, ranging from under 8s through to under 16s and 4 men's teams. 2 of our junior teams and 2 men's teams contested the finals. These teams were the 14E team and the 16A team, both who were Minor Premiers, and the B3 and C2 men's teams. The B3 side being Minor Premiers and the C2s qualifying for the finals after a tough semi-final win. We were successful in winning all but the 16's who were narrowly defeated. Congratulation to all these teams for a very successful year.
The Club has undergone some changes this season, not the least being the introduction of a new playing strip. The traditional all-white uniform has made way for a very smart looking white with royal blue side panelled playing shirt and the traditional white pants. This new sun-smart shirt with 3/4 length sleeve looks great on all the teams and has drawn many favourable comments from opposition sides.
The charter of Bosco Cricket Club is to give each child the opportunity to play cricket to the best of their ability in an environment equally as advantageous to them. We are predominately a family club that endeavours to put the players' needs first. I feel the Club does a great job in both respects, due mainly to the conscientious efforts of the committee, coaching staff and parents.
We offer coaching not only to our players, but also to our coaches, to increase their already high level of competence. We do this through the Club's close links to Cricket NSW, and feel that this is very beneficial to the on-going success and enjoyment of both players and coaches alike.
We also run a pre-cricket coaching course known formerly as Have-a-Go and now the In-2 Cricket coaching program. These programs have proven extremely popular and well-received by the younger kids and offer them a 'playful' look at cricket, whilst also introducing them to the basic skills of the game in a fun atmosphere.
The Bosco Cricket Club is one built on hard work by the committee and coaching staff and has a long and proud tradition stretching 40 years since our inception in 1968. The fact that this hard work unifies the club and community was borne out recently in our very well attended and enjoyed annual Trivia night, proving that the social side of our Club is also blooming.
The success of any junior sporting club should not be gauged by the number of trophies in the cabinet - that is secondary. The measure of success should be on the number of kids you have returning the following year. This shows the level of enjoyment the kids have and their willingness to have another go' regardless of the previous seasons good or not so good results. I am pleased to say, "At Bosco, they keep coming back".
