U14 Moore Shield vs St George

Trial at Heathcote Oval

Score : Sutherland 8/184 def St George 8/138

A very good start to our season with this convincing trial win against St George. Captain Hayden Smith and Keeper Jarryd Biviano did not play in this game due to Emerging Blues commitments so Jonathon Lamotta from the U14 Presidents Team joined us for the day.

With our Captain away the duties were handed to Nathan Ellis, it was good to see that he was able to maintain our consistency with the coin, we lost the toss and St George choose to bat. We opened the bowling with Saty Kar and Matt Stanton. Quick and accurate describes the first 10 over, 0/13 and our fielding was just as good. Matt delivered 5 overs 2 maidens 0/5 while Saty’s figures were 5 overs 3 maidens 0/4.

Nathan Ellis and Brendan Drury took the next 10 overs. Brendan took the first wicket with his 2nd ball, a sharp catch to Emmanuel Shewan who was keeping for the first 30 overs. Brendan bowled 5 overs 1/14. The second wicket fell in Nathan’s last over with another catch to Emmanuel. Nathan finished with 5 overs 3 maidens 1/6. All the team had 5 overs with Ryan Agan bowling a very good 10 straight overs of spin to give him 1/31.

St George found it difficult to score and the wickets were spread around our Team. Best bowling figures go to Jamie Brown with 5 overs 3 maidens 1/3, he was well supported by Hayden McLean with only 8 runs off his 5 overs. Other wickets went to Jonathan Lamotta x 2, Jonathon Haslam x 1. Catches were taken by Jonathon Haslam x 2, Nathan and Jordan Trajcevski 1 each and a run out to Saty. Brendan kept wickets for the second 30 overs with little luck but was solid behind the stumps. We only let 13 sundries through which was a fantastic effort.

At the end of their 60 overs St George has amassed 139 runs for the loss of 8 wickets with 1 Batsman retired while on 38.

Jonathon Haslam and Brendan opened the batting and got us off to a great start after 10 overs we were 0/41. The 17th over was not a good one for us with both boys loosing their wickets within 3 balls but not until they had put on a 53 run partnership. By this time Jono had 40 next to his name and Brendan 12. Next in was Emmanuel and Jamie. Emmanuel was going along well when Jordon joined him after Jaime had one get through his defenses.

Jordon and Emmanuel had a 37 run partnership when Emmanuel lost his wicket while on 24. This brought Hayden to the centre but unfortunately his stay was only short and then Jordon also heard the sound of bails hitting the ground while on a well constructed 27. It was the 39th over and we were 6/111 still 27 runs behind St George. Jonathon Lamott and Nathan were at the crease when Jonathon lost his wicket for 6, two runs short of the 138 target.

Ryan joined Nathan and 2 balls later we passed the 138 runs we needed. Both boys then opened their shoulders with some great stroke play, some connecting and some not. Nathan had 26 runs next to his name when he went for another big hit but found a catcher and he was on his way to join his Team on the side line. Saty joined Ryan, who was still going for the big hits. Saty hit the first 6 for the season and finished on 11 not out. Ryan was still swinging as he come off the field not out for 23,

At the end of our 60 overs we had 8/184 on the board. A good score at Heathcote on a hot and sunny day. Good win guys, now for Penrith next week in Rd 1. Thanks to Jonathon Lamotta and his family for filling in for this game.

Thanks also to the dedicated Mums who once again have set the standard for afternoon tea as well as Anthony, Paul, Murray and Joe for scoring
