SSJCA Finals Series Wrapup

Monday, March 16th, 2009

The finals this year were an exciting time for all our junior players.  From the amazing efforts of Chris Jago for St John Bosco who scored 176* in a final (check the record book on that one - highest ever score in a final…) through to Engadine Dragons winning 3 of the 4 “A” grade comps, this season has been a joy to behold for the parents and supporters of all the teams.

If you have any photos, reports or news you would like to share with the Shire cricket community, then send it through to photos@ssjca.com.au and we will post it here or alternatively we can arrange a CDRom to be picked up.

Enjoy the off season and we will catch you for the SSJCA Presentation Day on 31st May 2009.

Gymea wins twice - Club Championship & Weetbix Comp

Friday, March 13th, 2009

It’s been a busy time for the Gymea Bay Cricket Club. Not only have they taken home the club championship for 2008/09, eclipsing Engadine Dragons by 3 pts, but they have won the Weetbix competition, earning their club $20,000 plus a visit from Brett Lee in the lead up to the finals.

Getting a few pointers before the weekend finals, Brett appeared at a training session with Gymea players. In a Daily Telepgraph article it quotes “His popularity has not waned, as he was mobbed by the winners of a Weet-Bix competition at Gymea Bay Cricket Club yesterday.”

SSJCA Final Series

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

March is a great time of the year.  Autumn is kind in terms of weather, the grass is finally becoming green again, and the boys and girls in junior cricket are preparing for the finals.  To play in a cricket final is a special occasion.  The crowd is a little bigger, the players a little more apprehensive.  A final is a day where anything can happen.  Teams that haven’t missed a beat all year, suddenly hiccup. Players, who have struggled, search within and produce something special.

Help celebrate the season by attending one of finals and show your support for the best the Shire has to offer.

Full list of finals available here>>

Additionally, we would love to receive and display your finals photos. If you would like to submit photos to be displayed on this website, please email photos along with a short description of the events.

An Information Night for u/16s Players and Parents

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

When a player finishes their junior cricket in the u/16s competition, what options do they have to keep playing the game? Joining the Mens’ competition can seem daunting for young players and others wonder whether they should try for Grade. Are there other competitions they can join? How can our young players and their families discover what will suit them best?

To assist you, the SSJCA has organised an information evening with representatives from various cricket associations who will give you an overview of what is on offer, including Mens, Grade, Illawarra and Shires cricket. The speakers will include junior players who have recently made this transition from junior to senior cricket.

No matter what you intend to do next season, take this opportunity to learn how you can stay involved within the ‘cricket family’.

When: 7.30pm, Monday 23rd February 2009
Where: Sutherland United Services Club, 7 East Street Sutherland
Who is invited: ALL junior players who are in their last year of junior cricket and their parents.

SSJCA Presentation Day - 1st June

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Just a reminder that the SSJCA annual presentation day will be held at the Sutherland United Services Club, 7 East Parade, Sutherland on Sunday the 1st June 2008. All premiership winning teams and representative players are required to attend. As in prior years, the format will involve two sections.

Session 1 12.45pm for a 1.00pm start

  •     Development Squad
  •     Creak
  •     Cawsey
  •     Under 12 Presidents
  •     Award Winners
  •     Premiership Winning U10’s and U12’s

Session 2 2.30pm for a 2.45pm

  •     Gee
  •     Moore
  •     Under 14 Presidents
  •     Weblin
  •     Watson
  •     Under 16 Presidents
  •     Girls
  •     Award Winners
  •     Premiership Winning U14’s and U16’s

A couple of important reminders:

  • Every premiership winning team, except the 12E, should now have their premiership trophy. All clubs should get their own trophy engraved and make sure it comes on the day.
  • Players should all come in their playing gear/whites (or Sutherland playing shirt for the rep teams)
  • HOWEVER they should not bring or wear their playing caps as this is against SUSC rules. This is important.
  • Coaches and Managers - run back through the names of your players prior to the presentation, as it’s very easy for the combination of stage fright + a gap of 3 months to find to a coach getting lost with names with the microphone in hand.
