Rep Cricket - Reports & Photos

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Another good weekend for the boys from Sutherland. Our Shield teams picked up 4 from 6, with the Cawsey remaining undefeated and playing the other undefeated team in their division this weekend. We have 4 teams still with a chance of making the finals, the Creak, Cawsey, Gee and the Watson. This is an excellent effort and we wish all the boys the best this weekend.

In Presidents, our boys are still looking for that first elusive win. It will come, as from all reports they are playing well across all 3 age groups.

Shaun Brown Super Camp

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Shaun Brown is bringing his super camp to the Sutherland Shire. The camp will be held on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of December 2008 at Seymour Shaw, Miranda.

Involved in the camp will be Merv Hughes, Len Pascoe, Ray Bright and Colin Miller.

More information is available below and in the attachments. You can book online here.

Attachment One - What are the Super Camps?

Super Camp
The rotational program will see participants take part in a number of cricket sessions. All camps involve video analysis of your technique. Net sessions incorporating specialist batting and bowling sessions provide a great opportunity for you to improve. Centre wicket match play, specialist fielding areas and the ever popular modified games are all regular features. Supervision ratios are around 1:9 with our coordinator on hand to ensure the camps administration runs smoothly. Our former test stars move through all groups over the 12 hours and provide our major group talks on key aspects of the game.

I am very excited to extend the opportunity to attend this season’s cricket camps in both Melbourne and Sydney. The Super Camps are our premium cricket experience for the summer providing the best program and coaches in Australia.

This year sees another outstanding coaching panel of former test cricket stars on hand for all who attend. My Cricket Clinics are Melbourne’s most popular cricket camps and have been running for 18 years, I am very excited to introduce the new Sutherland Shire camp in 2008! Three great days of safe cricket fun and coaching are assured for all who attend.

Rep Cricket - Round 2 Update

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Sutherland had a lean round 2 with 1 win out of 5 games, plus a bye being the only pickings on offer. An outstanding win in Cawsey sees them 2 from 2, with a big game against Fairfield - Liverpool at Gwawley North. The Weblin were unlucky, falling 1 wicket short in an exciting game, and the young guns in the Creak fell just 10 runs short in a gallant chase against the undefeated (for 2 seasons) Georges River - St George side. With President’s Cup kicking off this weekend, perhaps more wins are around the corner.

SSJCA Update for Coaches & Managers

Sunday, November 2nd, 2008

The season has been fantastic so far.  It’s great seeing quality cricket played each Saturday.  Could all coaches and managers please take note about these recurring breaches.

Regulation 5.1 & 6.1

These regulations revolve around the use of batters and bowlers during a game when you have more than 11 players in your side during a Traditional Cricket match.

5.1 Number of Batters

Only 11 players may bat for each team in a match. If there is a 2nd innings then only the same 11 players may bat again.

6.1 Number of Bowlers

Only 11 players may bowl for each team in a match. If there is a 2nd innings then only the same 11 players may bowl again.

5.3 Bowling Restrictions in Modified Cricket

(3) No player may bowl more than 3 overs in an innings until all players have bowled 3 overs. If more overs are needed they should be shared evenly.

Regulation 6.4

Please make your 10’s and 12’s coaches and managers aware of the regulation 6.4, which affects the use of unrestricted bowlers.

6.4 Bowling Restrictions

1) During the first innings of each team the following restrictions apply:

(a) In Under 10 and Under 12 no bowler may bowl more than 8 overs;

Scorers

I think everyone would agree that the job of the scorer is a tough one which requires concentration and diligence to complete the task each Saturday.

The role of the scorer is to score. Coaches on the field should not excessively request score updates from the scorers.

The occasional request is fine (once an hour), but please consider the complexity of the scorers role before asking for score updates.

14A and Up – Role of Captains

An important aspect of cricket is the role of captains in traditional cricket. For age group 14A and up, as coach of the team, you should be encouraging your captain to take a large role in the proceedings. An example of this is a team declaration. As coach, instead of communicating with the umpire directly, get your captain to inform the Umpires that the team will declare. This is one of many ways to involve your captain, and will help prepare our players for the future.

Wide Calls

Couple of points coming out of the calling of wides by on-field coaches who are umpiring.  Note:

1. A wide cannot be called if the player hits the ball - under no circumstances is this a wide.

2. If the player swings at the ball and plays over the top of the ball or under the ball, and misses it - it’s not a wide.

3. Once the ball hits the grass on either side of the wicket - it’s a no ball and not a wide - players cannot be dismissed off a no ball but can off a wide.  The only way a player can be dismissed off a no ball is run out.  Bowled, caught, stumped and lbw are all removed on no balls.

4. All calling of No Balls and Wides is done by the umpire at the bowling end. The square leg umpire may indicate to the other umpire, but cannot call no balls or wides.
