Note from Cricket NSW

We are glad to say that we finally have available a new Introduction to Coaching course, on-line & free for all. Please find below a brief description of the course, where it fits & what it provides.

The new course replaces the theory component of the old Level 1 course structure & acts as a pre-requisite for the new course. Having completed the course myself, it consists of 5 easy modules, making 48 multiple choice or true/false questions in total. The content is suitable not only for beginning coaches, but also for parents, volunteers, scorers, umpires & teachers.

The website is:

http://introductiontocricket.bpdmail.com.au/

Other resources available at:

As a free course that will assist your clubs & schools I strongly encourage anyone with an interest or involvement in cricket to complete the course. You can even print your own certificate on completion.

Tom’s Terrific Tips - Sportmanship #1

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Encourage your teammates

Every player in your team is doing his or her best and is there to help the team win.  You will never help your team-mates by being critical of them.  Remember - everybody makes mistakes, it may be your turn next.  Encourage your team-mates with supporting comments and everyone will enjoy the game even more.

Rule Reminder

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Sometimes it helps to be reminded of some of the SSJCA Modifications to rules.  Below are some examples:

5.1 Number of Batters

Only 11 players may bat for each team in a match. If there is a 2nd innings then only the same 11 players may bat again.

6.1 Number of Bowlers

Only 11 players may bowl for each team in a match. If there is a 2nd innings then only the same 11 players may bowl again.

3.11.1 Match Recording Process

1) At the conclusion of each match, details of the match scores shall be provided promptly to the Competition Manager in the format required.
(a) Currently results are recorded on the website (www.cricket-online.info).
(b) Results for all Saturday Competition games are to be recorded by 6.00pm on the Sunday following the conclusion of the match.
2) Failure to submit results or the provision of incomplete or erroneous results shall be dealt with by the Management Committee.
3) Teams will not be awarded competition points until a valid result has been recorded. Penalties may apply for failure to supply complete results in a timely manner.

6.4 Bowling Restrictions

During the first innings of each team the following restrictions apply:
(a) In Under 10 and Under 12 no bowler may bowl more than 8 overs;

In Modified Cricket, the following restriction occurs:

5 Bowling
(3) No player may bowl more than 3 overs in an innings until all players have bowled 3 overs. If more overs are needed they should be shared evenly.

If you are ever in doubt about any rule intepretation, then contact your Club Secretary or Tom Croucher - SSJCA Competition Manager.

Cawsey into the Final!!!!

Monday, December 1st, 2008

It is with great pride that we announce that the Under 12 - Cawsey Shield is through to the final of the NSWDCA Inter-Association competition.

I was out at the game on the weekend and watch in awe as they picked up a couple of vital wickets to take the opposition from 0-40 to all out of 76. Then just as Penrith were tightening the screws, our boys smashed one of the biggest sixes you are likely to see in this age group, to not only relieve the pressure, but set us up for the win.

It was clear that the side is very well coached, with Peter Schofield looking to add another Rep Shield victory to his coaching record. They say he is the finest rep coach in NSW, and the SSJCA is appreciative of his efforts this season.

But no matter how good the coach is, you need the boys to perform - and these boys have done it from day 1. They have one game to go and they need your support. If you can make it to the game, please do, as they will be in foreign territory looking for support.

The team of budding champions are:

  • Joshua Amos - Aquinas Comets
  • Brendan Curtis - Engadine Dragons
  • Tom Doyle - Como Jannali
  • Dane Fisher - Gymea Bay
  • Brayden Heffernan - Engadine Dragons
  • Justin Hess - Como Jannali
  • Lachlan Hess - Como Jannali
  • Nathan Marciante - Engadine Dragons
  • Dylan Rae - Engadine Dragons
  • Alexander Roberts - Sylvania Heights
  • Jonathan Rose - Gymea Bay
  • Blake Woodward - Como Jannali

Coach: Peter Schofield
